About me
Early Life
My name is Paul Edwards, born in early October 1978 at Marston Green Maternity Hospital, which was once the primary hospital for births in the area. I grew up in Kingshurst, a former small suburb that has since expanded and is currently undergoing regeneration. In the past, it was a close-knit community where neighbours would casually drop by for a cup of tea and a chat, leaving their doors unlocked. I attended Yorkswood Primary School and cherished my early school experiences.
After a few years, my parents welcomed two new siblings into our family, and I was grateful to have two brothers to spend quality time with. Our move to Castle Bromwich marked a new chapter in our lives, as the area underwent regeneration and continued to progress. I attended Park Hall Secondary School, now recognised as an academy, where I developed a love for learning and a thirst for knowledge.
Later Life
Time flew by at Park Hall, and after my final year, I pursued culinary studies at Solihull College, specialising in kitchen catering. This led me to a position at a bakery in Acocks Green, although my employment was cut short when the owners decided to retire. As a result, I found myself seeking new opportunities in the employment market. I was able to secure new employment swiftly after leaving my short-lived position in Acocks Green. I found work as a janitor at the National Exhibition Centre, and this opportunity truly changed my life. It was there that I met my now-wife, and we immediately hit it off. Surprisingly, we got engaged on the very first day we met and have been together now almost a quarter of a century happily married.
Seeking a change of scenery and eager to broaden our horizons, we decided to relocate to South West Devon. Living by the sea and surrounded by stunning landscapes was a dream come true, until my partner fell ill unexpectedly. I had to quickly pivot my career and transition into the Health and Social Care Sector to provide her with the support she needed. Through hands-on experience, I obtained several qualifications in this field. However, with no family nearby in Devon, we ultimately made the decision to return to the Midlands, my hometown, for family support. I have directed care agencies to provide assistance in my caring role, and I am pleased to be able to offer support to our carers if they have any questions, leveraging my extensive knowledge in the care sector.
Throughout my time caring for my wife, I continued my studies in Health and Social Care while also exploring the field of Law. I have obtained a basic Paralegal Training Certificate and am currently working towards a Diploma Level 7 in Criminal Law and Police . In addition to my academic pursuits, I have ventured into the realm of politics. My passion for advocacy had led me to stand as an Independent candidate in the 2024 local elections for Elmdon Ward to which I gained 107 votes which is a proud achievement for me. I am dedicated to representing and serving my community, and I am eager to tackle the challenges that come with this responsibility.
I have always had a keen interest in politics and have actively engaged in community service. While I have written on behalf of community members to Members of Parliament and Councillors in the past, I believe there is more I can do. Aspiring to be more independent and proactive, I aim to take on casework myself rather than waiting for responses. If elected as an Independent for Elmdon Ward, I am committed to providing exceptional service to my community and keeping them informed about local news and events.
Area’s of Interest
I have a strong interest in Adult Health and Social Care due to a personal connection with a family member who was unexpectedly diagnosed with a rare disease. This experience led me to pursue an education in the Health and Social Care sector despite initial apprehensions. I have acquired various qualifications including Dementia Training, Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS), Medication Administration, End of Life and Palliative Care, and The Care Certificate.
One of my proudest achievements is completing the Working with Vulnerable Clients course by The Law Society. Additionally, I have a passion for law and have obtained a Paralegal Training Certificate, currently pursuing a Diploma Level 7 in Criminal Law and Police, and studying as a Level 4 Legal Advisor. I am dedicated to advocating for individuals and finding solutions to their problems. in your hands.
